Destiny 2 PC version will launch after console
There has been quite an onslaught of Destiny 2 news today and it is easy to see why it is one of the most popular games out there. The announcement of the PC version really added to the hype, while at the same time it caused some griping in the community. The news that PC players will receive the game after their console counterparts is not going to help, that much is for sure.
Destiny 2’s creative director, Luke Smith, said that they are not commited to a PC date yet, and that their “partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net” they have to “mak sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it’s a delicious piece of bread when it comes out.” The actual news of when we might see the PC version is not known at this time.
Blizzard’s announcement on Destiny 2 is equally non-descript, saying that they are “excited to work with Bungie to bring the PC version of Destiny 2 to every region Blizzard currently operates in. Bungie is actively working through the global details. We look forward to sharing additional information later this year.” With PC players finally being treated to a console exclusive, there might be some backlash if the information is not a bit more “solid” soon.
Console version of Destiny has never had dedicated servers, and the peer-to-peer system is looking to be back in Destiny 2 as well. Bungie is, however, working hard on improving it, as well as reducing latency, especially when it comes to PC. PC led, David Shaw, said the following: “We have looked at our tech and tried to figure out ‘okay, where can we optimize, how can we reduce that.’ So there is new tech coming, but I would say that, at the moment, it’s not specifically geared toward PC. But again, we have things we are doing to kind of get to the last push, so we’re very cognizant of those issues and we’re definitely trying to deliver the best experience possible”.
There is still a long time until the actual launch, and we will make sure we gather as much info as we can on the upcoming Destiny 2.
