Pep Guardiola has described Manchester City’s last Premier League game of the season, against Watford, as being “like a final”.

City head to Vicarage Road for the match on Sunday, which is live on Sky Sports 2, knowing they need only a draw if they are to secure Champions League football for next season.

They can even get away with losing, providing Liverpool and Arsenal – in fourth and fifth place respectively – don’t win their final-day matches.

Guardiola spoke earlier this week about how his performance this season would have led to him being sacked at his former clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Spanish coach will end the campaign without a trophy for the first time in his career and is fully aware of the pressure on his players going into their last game of the 2016-17 campaign.

“We’ve dropped a lot of points at home but we still have 95, 96 minutes to fight,” said Guardiola. “It’s so important for the club, for the future, being in the Champions League.

City manager Pep Guardiola admits their last Premier League game of the season at Watford is like a final

“So, it is a crucial game for us, a final, absolutely a final for us. And of course it is in our hands, it depends on us.

“We have to win the game. Every game is a pressure but it is in our hands. It’s not depending on Arsenal or Liverpool, it’s in our control.

“This is a real final for us and we have to have a real focus on that. We have to talk about the present and not about what might happen next season.”
