Jennifer Lawrence’s Trainer Reveals The $10 Secret Behind Her Shape For X-Men

Everyone’s favorite babe Jennifer Lawrence was super… um, babe-ish as Mystique in X-Men: First Class, and now we know why. And we know how as well!. Dalton Wong, Jennifer’s personal trainer and London-based founder of Twenty Two Training, recently revealed that he got her into shape in just three months.

Wong numbered all the usual things he made Lawrence do: weight training, running, yoga, but the most important piece of equipment? Resistance bands.

Yes, you read that right. The stretchy bands add resistance to simple workouts like leg lifts and are great for targeting and toning certain areas of the body, the experienced trainer explained. On top of that, he was also able to squeeze in a quick workout with resistance bands even while Lawrence was on set filming.

And apparently it worked to beautiful effect: Jennifer Lawrence looked flawless as the blue-skinned mutant Mystique in X-Men: First Class. With Wong by her side and with the help of the resistance bands, we expect her to look just as good in the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

For those who aren’t familiar with resistance bands, they’re best described as oversized rubber bands. The stretchy bands come in different colors, which signal differing levels of resistance. The more resistance, the more you engage your muscles. The best part is, they’re dirt cheap – the common resistance band costs barely $10.

Wong said he often only had 10-minute intervals with Lawrence while she was filming, targeting and toning certain areas like butt or legs. He says the bands are the ultimate way to train on-the-go, since they can easily fit into your pocket, and you don’t necessarily need to break a sweat for them to be effective. Looking at how Lawrence turned out, we can only agree.

Wong — who’s been a proponent of the bands all throughout his 15 years of training — also says the bands can be a great alternative for women who want to get into resistance training. Who needs weightlifting when you have resistance bands?
