We all keep a box of baking soda at home but not all of us know that you have the most versatile and effective tool in your household arsenal. It’s a powerhouse of a product. It’s most often used in cooking, and it’s primarily used in baking as a leavening agent. What happens is that in a combination with an acid, it creates bubbles and releases carbon dioxide gas, which then causes the dough to rise. Did you know that sodium bicarbonate was used in cooking green vegetables, as it gives them a bright green color? However, it affected their taste, so this process is not longer common. It is also used in Asian and Latin American cuisine to make a piece of meat more tender. Other than its usage in cooking baking soda it’s the cheapest remedy, and it has other surprising usages.
Here are 12 of them:
1. Heartburn, indigestion, and ulcer pain
If you are experiencing stomach acid, dissolve half a teaspoon of baking soda in a half a glass of water, and drink it every 2 hours. The key to baking soda’s capability to make better acid reflux, lies in the ingredient sodium bicarbonate. It will also soothe indigestion and heartburn, and it’s used for treating ulcer pain. However, remember not to use Sodium bicarbonate to often, since the excessive use might cause serious electrolyte and acid/base imbalances.
2. Tooth and gum Paste
For healthy teeth and gums, just mix 6 parts of baking soda with 1 part of sea salt and this will be an effective tooth and gum paste. The next step will be to blend them and apply the paste on your teeth and gums and leave it for 15 minutes. It will polish and clean your teeth, eliminate any plaque you have and it will get rid of bad breath.
3. Natural deodorant
A pinch of baking soda mixed with water is the easiest and simplest way to combat body odor. You might even apply it directly to your armpits. It’s the best substitute for the expensive deodorants that are full of parabens and aluminum.
