Town Voted Worst Place to Live In England – Residents Reveal The ‘Truly Terrifying’ Sights

At the end of 2017, the website iLiveHere compiled user reviews to create a list of the worst places to live in England.

As The Sun mentions, there was nothing really scientific about the survey. It was all calculated on the basis of subjective user reviews. Still, however, a few cities managed to top the list. One user noted, in regards to #3-spot Luton, “Thank God there’s 3 motorway junctions, 2 railway stations and an airport that can be used for a swift exit.”

Hull, an East Yorkshire port city has been rated the worst place to live in the past, but in 2017, it dodged a bullet, with the Kent port town Dover taking first place.

One iLiveHere user noted, “Dover, as we all know, is the gateway to Europe, and most people that stop here for any reason are normally glad they can leave it behind very quickly.”

Another (more vulgar) reviewer writes, “Let us for a moment imagine that the British Isles are the silhouette of an old man. Scotland is his cap, Cornwall his toes, Anglie his curved spine, making Dover his herpes infested sh*t-hole.”

Well then!

But is Dover, this adorable port town, really all that bad— or are people just over exaggerating? The owners of a Facebook group, “Shepherds of Dover“, have been uploading photos of their community to let the world judge for itself.

“Six months ago, we moved to Dover that was voted to be the worst place to live in England. We never stopped taking photos of the truly terrifying things we found here,” creators of the group explained on Bored Panda.

For hundreds of years, Dover has been the “gateway to England”.
